Wow, it was a scorcher this weekend. I know, I know, I’m sorry to my Arizona friends. I heard it was so hot there that the paint was melting outside. Yikes! I don’t miss those days. But, it was still super hot here and with three super active kids, it’s hard to convince them to stay in the house all weekend long.
We decided to take advantage of our new patio and set-up some fun water play for the kids. We blew up our little 10×6 foot pool and set it up on the patio. My husband, being the big kid at heart that he is, also set-up a water slide by connecting a hose to the kids’ slide and put the sandbox at the base for a pool to land in. He also set-up a “slip and slide” of sorts with a large plastic tarp and a sprinkler on top. Never said we were fancy. 😉
The kids had such an amazing time and quite frankly so did the grown-ups! It’s not a big pool but we crammed in there, splashed around, played with toys and most importantly, cooled off! Reagan has a bit of a fear of the water so she’s standing in a blow-up float. She didn’t exactly float since her feet could touch the bottom, but I think it just helped her to feel more stable. Whatever works!
Luckily, we actually have a decent amount of shade on our patio so my little pasty kiddos can stay that way. When they would get chilly in the pool, we set them loose in the yard to play with the Frozen power wheels and their roller coaster (that’s by far the best toddler toy ever). Oh, and FYI, sandboxes make the best toddler pools! They’re shallow, stable and nothing to blow up.
If the heat is unbearable and the thought of even getting in a pool doesn’t appeal to you, we often look for fun crafts or activities that Macie, in particular, can do inside. We picked up this cute Rock & Gem Dig Kit. It kept Macie busy for quite a while digging through all the “dirt” to get the stones free. She loved finding all the “jewels” and now carries them everywhere.
I know we can expect many more hot days to come so I’ll be working on some more outdoor and indoor activities. But next weekend we are headed up to Northern Idaho for a family reunion over the 4th. Hopefully, it will be a bit cooler there! What activities do you like to do with your kids to beat the summer heat?
