Happy Memorial Day!
Every year, near my work, there’s a park that sets up a beautiful memorial display. It’s called the Field of Honor and they fill the entire park with flags in honor of those who have served.
We’ve had such a productive weekend, I mean my house is still a mess, but at least when it comes to projects, I feel like we have accomplished a lot. Though I did finally clear out a ton of baby stuff and packed away winter clothes (don’t judge me since it’s almost June, it was literally still freezing temps until 3 weeks ago!), so now you can actually walk into the closet under our stairs now. Woohoo!
On Saturday, we spent some more time on the yard planting and prepping for our big project, the patio extension! Finally! We have this tiny 10×10 square patio off the back of our house, and it’s so useless. It barely fits a table. Of course, I forgot to take the pre-project shot, as usual, so here’s the messy mid-project shot. See, useless.
My wonderful dad came over and started helping us lay the forms for the concrete. This also involved moving multiple sprinkler lines. Oh and don’t forget that coincidentally we suddenly had a broken sprinkler line in another part of the yard so we had to stop and fix that. 🙄 This week, we have to dig the rest of the sod out, put down gravel and tamp it down in preparation for pouring concrete next weekend. We’re movin’ on up to a 12×32 foot patio, so excited to have more outdoor living space!
Another more minor project we started was covering our air conditioning unit. This project serves a couple of purposes. One, to reduce some of the sound when we’re outside and more importantly, to protect little grabby fingers that keep trying to run over to the air-conditioning unit. Luckily, my dad always has a ton of pallets, so he brought us few. We screwed two together and then cut part of a third and attached it for the extra length on the front. I wouldn’t say this is exactly pretty, so I think I’m going to try to come up with, which means Pinterest, some cute ideas to pretty it up. (See the finished project here!)
We also finally set up a birdhouse that was gifted to us like three years ago for Christmas. My father-in-law made it and it’s just been chilling on the ground ever since. We used liquid nails and a double sided screw to attach it to a tree stump. We’ve been attracting a ton of birds with our feeder and have even had a few robins’ nests so maybe some bird will call it home. I got the cool shot below shortly after the baby robins hatched in our apricot tree a couple weeks ago.
We have so much going on, but we snuck in a little fun time too. All in all, it’s been such a fun weekend and I hate to go back to work tomorrow but mamas gotta pay for these projects somehow!
